Loosely-organized ancient Korean tribal state, in Dong-okjeo (Eastern) and Buk-okjeo (Northern) branches, on the northeastern Korean peninsula, subject at various times to Gojoseon, Han-dynasty commanderies, and Goguryeo overlordship.
Never developed strong central kingship; progressively absorbed as a tributary of Goguryeo, disappearing as a distinct polity by around the 5th century AD.
