Late Mississippian paramount chiefdom of the Oconee River valley in Georgia — the Shinholser-site chiefdom of Altamaha-Ocute from c. 1275, the Shoulderbone-site capital founded c. 1325 over Altamaha, Cofaqui and Patofa, visited by de Soto in 1540, and the southern capital of Altamaha (La Tama) until Westo slave raids drove the province to the Apalachicola and Yamasee country in the 1660s.
Relocated to the Apalachicola and Yamasee provinces under Westo slave raids in the 1660s; its people fed the Yamasee confederacy.
