Islamic-influenced Nupe kingdom along the Niger River in central Nigeria, traditionally founded by Tsoede (Edegi), an illegitimate son of the Attah of Idah, who unified the Nupe chiefdoms.
Fragmented in a 19th-century succession crisis; the Fulani jihadist Mallam Dendo intervened on behalf of one claimant and by 1835 established a new Fulani ruling dynasty based at Bida, bringing Nupe into the Sokoto Caliphate's orbit as a Fulani-ruled emirate.
