The Ñuiñe were a Classic-period lowland Mixtec culture of the Mixteca Baja region of western Oaxaca, Mexico, with its own hieroglyphic writing system, distinctive ceramics and figurines, and urban centers organized around multiple plazas; Cerro de las Minas (near Huajuapan de León) was its principal center.
Declined by around 800 CE alongside the broader Classic Mesoamerican collapse, contemporaneous with the decline of Teotihuacan and Monte Albán; the region saw reduced development until later absorbed into subsequent Mixtec polities.
The standard synthesis of ancient Oaxaca, framing the Mixteca Baja (Ñuiñe) tradition.
