Xianbei-led dynasty founded by the Yuwen family on the ruins of the Western Wei; conquered the rival Northern Qi in 577 to briefly reunify northern China.
Overthrown in 581 when the regent Yang Jian (Emperor Wen) forced the abdication of the child emperor and founded the Sui dynasty, which reunified all of China by 589.
