1615 – present
Native nationNorth America

Guardians of the portages linking Georgian Bay to the Ottawa River, the Nbisiing were keystone traders whose canoe route every voyageur to the west had to pass.

Driven temporarily to Lake Nipigon by Iroquois raids, they returned to their lake and endure today as Nipissing First Nation on Reserve 10, the first Anishinaabe nation in Ontario to ratify its own constitution.
