Nasa (Páez)

1537 – present
Native nationSouth America

Warrior cultivators of the cloud-forest gorges of Tierradentro, whose deep painted tombs and century-long guerrilla resistance made the central cordillera all but ungovernable for Spain.

Allied with La Gaitana's upper-Magdalena rising of 1539, then resisted for nearly a century before securing colonial-era resguardos; today some 200,000 Nasa hold reserves across Cauca and Huila and field the unarmed Indigenous Guard.
