Naqada Culture

4000 BC – 3201 BC
ChiefdomAfrica

Predynastic Upper Egyptian chiefdoms whose Naqada I–III phases coalesced into the first Egyptian state.

The Naqada Culture (c. 4400–3000 BCE) did not end through conquest but through gradual coalescence: Naqada III chiefdoms expanded northward, absorbed rival polities including the Maadi culture of Lower Egypt, and transformed directly into the first unified Egyptian state under Dynasty 0 and Dynasty 1, c. 3100 BCE.
