An early Archaic settlement complex in Peru's upper Zaña Valley (Cajamarca) where some of the earliest known cultivated plants in the Americas -- squash, peanut, cotton, manioc -- have been radiocarbon-dated at sites excavated by Tom Dillehay.
Its incipient horticulture intensified gradually over succeeding millennia, feeding into the later agricultural societies of Peru's north coast and highlands (e.g. the later Formative-period cultures of the Zaña/Lambayeque region).
