Moxos & the Llanos de Mojos

700 BC – present
Native nationSouth America

Peoples of the vast flood-and-drought savanna of the Beni, heirs to ancient earthwork-builders, gathered after 1682 into the Jesuit reductions of Moxos amid raised causeways and fish-weirs.

Endure: the Moxeño (Trinitario and Ignaciano) remain in lowland Bolivia, and Trinidad and San Ignacio de Moxos grew from their reductions.
