Middle Assyrian Empire

1363 BC – 912 BC
EmpireAsia

The first expansionist phase of Assyrian power, under rulers such as Tukulti-Ninurta I and Tiglath-Pileser I; briefly the leading Near Eastern state before a Dark Age contraction.

Gradually transformed into the Neo-Assyrian Empire through a period of territorial contraction in the 11th–10th centuries BCE; the transition is conventionally marked by the accession of Adad-nirari II in 911 BCE, who began the sustained Neo-Assyrian expansion.
