The first Frankish kingdom under the Merovingian dynasty, founded by Clovis I, which unified much of western Europe and adopted Christianity before yielding to the Carolingians.

Ended in 751 when Pepin the Short deposed the last Merovingian king Childeric III, had him tonsured and confined to a monastery, and proclaimed himself the first Carolingian king of the Franks.
