Neolithic culture of the western Nile Delta centered on the large settlement of Merimde Beni Salama, showing agriculture, permanent huts, and one of the earliest ceramic sequences in Lower Egypt.
Its later phase runs contemporary with the Faiyum A and Badari cultures; the Delta cultural sequence continues into the El Omari and Maadi cultures before Naqada III/unification.
