Meriam

Melanesian Torres Strait Islander people of the eastern Torres Strait islands (Mer/Murray Island, Ugar/Stephen Island, Erub/Darnley Island), whose native title claim was upheld in Mabo v Queensland (1992), fundamentally changing Australian land law.
