Kingdom of Mauretania

Berber kingdom of the far Maghreb, client of Rome under Juba II before annexation by Claudius.

Emperor Caligula executed the last king Ptolemy of Mauretania in AD 40; after a four-year revolt Emperor Claudius divided the territory into two Roman provinces, Mauretania Tingitana and Mauretania Caesariensis, by c. AD 44.
