Maukhari dynasty

A post-Gupta dynasty that controlled the Ganga-Yamuna plains from Kannauj, initially as Gupta and Vardhana vassals before asserting independence in the mid-6th century under Ishanavarman.

Fragmented after King Grahavarman was killed c. 606; Kannauj passed by marriage/succession to Harsha of the Pushyabhuti (Vardhana) dynasty, who made it his imperial capital.
