Maracá Funerary Culture

Makers of seated anthropomorphic and zoomorphic burial urns hidden in rock-shelters and cave cemeteries along the rivers of Amapá, north of the Amazon's mouth.

Part of the dense mosaic of lower-Amazon cultures, the Maracá tradition endured to European contact - 17th-century glass trade beads were found adhering to its urns - before its peoples were scattered amid the upheavals of the Guianas.
