A small khanate in the far north-western corner of Iran around the fortress-town of Maku, near the Ottoman and Caucasus frontiers, ruled by a family of Bayat (Turkic) origin from the mid-18th century; it persisted as a semi-autonomous border khanate well into the modern era.
Remained a semi-autonomous frontier khanate under Qajar Iran; its autonomy long outlasted the cell window (into the 20th century). For the 1500–1830 cell the record simply notes its existence as a distinct border polity from c.1747.
