Khanate of Maimana

The strongest of the four Uzbek khanates of the Chahar Wilayat, ruled by the Ming dynasty from the walled town of Maimana; it stood between Bukhara, Herat and Kabul, resisted Herati annexation in 1847 and 1850, and was still writing to British officers as an autonomous wali's state in the 1880s.

Rebelled against Afghanistan in 1875 and was crushed and its city sacked; formally annexed by Afghanistan in 1892 under Abdur Rahman Khan.
