Madurai Sultanate (Ma'bar Sultanate)

A short-lived independent Muslim sultanate proclaimed at Madurai in Tamil Nadu by Jalaluddin Ahsan Khan, who broke away from the Delhi Sultanate; it became the southernmost Islamic state in India before its conquest by Vijayanagara.

The last sultan, Ala-ud-Din Sikandar Shah, was killed at the Battle of Madurai in 1378 by Vijayanagara general Kumara Kampana, ending the sultanate after eight rulers in 43 years.
