CultureEurope

Pre-Roman people of western Iberia (between the Douro and Tagus rivers) who waged a fierce guerrilla resistance against Rome under the leadership of Viriathus.

Viriathus, their foremost leader, was assassinated in 139 BC by treachery (bribed companions); his successor Tautalus was defeated by Rome shortly after, ending the Lusitanian War and subjugating the population to Rome.
