Liao Dynasty

907 – 1125
EmpireAsia

The Liao was the Khitan empire that dominated northern Manchuria and Inner Mongolia while extracting annual tribute from the Song dynasty, maintaining a dual administrative system for nomadic and sedentary subjects.

The Liao dynasty was destroyed in 1125 CE when the Jurchen Jin dynasty captured the last Liao emperor Tianzuo, ending Khitan rule; a remnant state, Western Liao (Qara Khitai), survived in Central Asia until 1218.
