Liang dynasty

Third of the four southern dynasties, founded by Xiao Yan (Emperor Wu), whose near half-century reign made Jiankang a great Buddhist capital before the Hou Jing rebellion (548-552) wrecked the south.

Usurped in 557 by the general Chen Baxian, who founded the Chen dynasty; a rump Western Liang lingered at Jiangling under Western Wei/Northern Zhou protection until 587.
