League of Mayapan

987 – 1461
ConfederationNorth America

A confederation of Yucatec Maya city-states — led in turn by the Itza, the Tutul-Xiu of Uxmal, and the Cocom of Mayapán itself — that dominated the northern Yucatán Peninsula through the Postclassic period.

A war between Uxmal and the Cocom royal family in 1441 shattered central authority; by 1461 the league had fully disintegrated into roughly seventeen independent Yucatec kuchkabal (petty-state) polities.
