A military and diplomatic alliance of Albanian noble houses formed at Lezhë on 2 March 1444 under Gjergj Kastrioti (Skanderbeg) to present a unified front against Ottoman expansion — a loose confederation, not a centralized state, that won a string of victories (Torvioll 1444, Second Siege of Krujë 1450) but never fully overcame the fractiousness of its member lords.
Weakened steadily after early losses of cohesion among member houses; resistance collapsed after Skanderbeg's death in 1468, and the League's effective end came in 1479 when Shkodër fell to the Ottomans, completing the Ottoman conquest of Albanian lands.
