Third of the Five Dynasties, founded by Shi Jingtang with Khitan Liao military backing in exchange for ceding the strategic Sixteen Prefectures to the Liao — a concession with long-term consequences for Song-era defense.
Destroyed in 946-947 when the Khitan Liao invaded and briefly occupied Kaifeng after a breakdown in the Jin-Liao tributary relationship.
