Lan Na

Tai kingdom of northern Thailand founded by Mangrai, a major centre of Theravada Buddhism, independent until Burmese conquest and later absorbed by Siam.

Conquered by Toungoo king Bayinnaung on 2 April 1558, becoming a vassal of Burma for approximately 200 years; eventually incorporated into the Kingdom of Siam via the Siamese conquest of 1774–1775, ending its existence as a distinct polity.
