La Isabela

1493 – 1500
ColonyNorth America

Columbus's second-voyage settlement on Hispaniola's north coast, founded December 1493-January 1494 — the first planned European town and the first stable (if short-lived) Spanish colony in the Americas.

Struck by epidemic disease and Atlantic hurricanes and starved of the gold it was founded to find; abandoned by 1500 as Spanish colonial authority shifted south to the newly founded Santo Domingo.
