Multi-ethnic Jukun-led confederation in the Benue Valley that repeatedly threatened the Hausa states and Bornu in the 17th century.
Collapsed in the early 19th century following internal dynastic disputes and external pressure from Chamba and Fulani forces; the last king Adi Matswen (r. 1780–1810) was forced into exile by Chamba invasion, and the Fulani jihad from c. 1806 fragmented the confederacy, with remnant territories absorbed by new Fulani emirates and the successor Wukari kingdom of the Jukun.
