Kuru Kingdom

1200 BC – 350 BC
KingdomAsia

An ancient Vedic union of the Bharata and Puru peoples in northern India, considered the first recorded state-level society of the Indian subcontinent and the setting of the Mahabharata epic.

The Kuru kingdom declined and fragmented by c. 500–400 BCE as the Mahajanapada era brought the rise of more powerful neighbors such as Magadha and Kosala; it lost political significance and was eventually absorbed, with no single documented conquest event.
