ConfederationOceania

The most powerful of the three traditional Fijian confederacies, centered on Bau island off eastern Viti Levu; under Cakobau, it became the dominant force in 19th-century Fiji before cession to Britain.

Dissolved as a sovereign political entity upon British colonial annexation of Fiji on 10 October 1874, when Cakobau (head of the Kubuna confederacy and King of Fiji) and senior chiefs signed the Deed of Cession; traditional chiefly structures were retained under British indirect rule.
