Koryak

1000 – 1758
Native nationAsia

Village-dwelling sea hunters and inland reindeer herders of northern Kamchatka, who refused Russian tribute for sixty years and lost more than half their people fighting it.

Not an ending: broken as a fighting force in 1757-8 and enrolled as yasak-payers, the Koryak endured Russian settlement, mission and collectivisation and remain the titular people of northern Kamchatka today.
