The South Slavic kingdom formed after World War I from Serbia, Montenegro, and the former South Slav territories of Austria-Hungary, initially called the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes.

Destroyed by the Axis invasion of 6–17 April 1941, when Yugoslavia surrendered unconditionally and was occupied and partitioned among Germany, Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and the newly proclaimed puppet Independent State of Croatia.
