Formed in 1806 when Napoleon elevated the Electorate of Württemberg (itself created in 1803) to a kingdom. Joined the German Confederation in 1815 and became a constituent kingdom of the German Empire in 1871, retaining its own monarchy until the November 1918 revolution.
Monarchy abolished November 1918 in the German Revolution; King Wilhelm II abdicated; became the Free People's State of Württemberg.
