Kingdom of the Two Sicilies

The Bourbon kingdom encompassing southern Italy and Sicily, one of the largest pre-unification Italian states, dissolved when Garibaldi's expedition united it with the Kingdom of Italy.

Conquered by Garibaldi's Expedition of the Thousand beginning May 1860, then formally annexed to the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia following a plebiscite in October 1860, and absorbed into the newly proclaimed Kingdom of Italy on 17 March 1861.
