The early unified Swedish kingdom emerging from the Svear and Gotar tribal coalitions around 800 CE, which expanded and adopted Christianity during the Viking Age.

Entered the Kalmar Union in 1397 when Margaret I united the three Scandinavian crowns, ending Sweden's independent medieval kingdom until Gustav Vasa was elected king in 1523 and the union dissolved.
