Kingdom of Sussex

477 – 825
KingdomEurope

Kingdom of the South Saxons on England's south coast; one of the seven traditional Anglo-Saxon kingdoms but one of the least documented, with no surviving king-list and apparently less centralisation than its neighbours.

Lost independence to Wessex, probably in the aftermath of the Battle of Ellendun (825-827); by 927 all remaining Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, Sussex included, were ruled as part of the unified kingdom of England.
