Ancient South Arabian kingdom famed in Hebrew and Ethiopian legend as the realm of the Queen of Sheba; it controlled the frankincense trade and built the sophisticated Marib Dam irrigation system.

Conquered c. 275 CE by the Himyarite Kingdom, which had been expanding steadily; the Himyarite kings subsequently assumed the title 'King of Saba and Raidan,' formally incorporating the Sabaean realm into the Himyarite state.
