Kingdom of Rheged

500 – 652
KingdomEurope

Brittonic kingdom of the Hen Ogledd ('Old North'), centred on Cumbria and Galloway during the post-Roman era and early Middle Ages; its borders are undefined in any surviving source, but it is closely associated with its late-6th-century king Urien Rheged, known through Welsh poetic tradition.

Fades from the historical record in the 7th century; conventionally understood to have been absorbed into the expanding Anglian kingdom of Northumbria, though the precise mechanism (conquest vs. dynastic marriage) is not attested and remains scholarly conjecture.
