A Welsh successor kingdom that emerged from the post-Roman Romano-British tribal lands of the Ordovices and Cornovii, covering roughly the northern two-thirds of modern Powys and part of the English West Midlands; early tradition places its first capital at the former Roman city of Viroconium (Wroxeter).
Survived through the early medieval Welsh kingdoms era; fragmented and was eventually absorbed into the successor principalities of Powys Wenwynwyn and Powys Fadog, and ultimately into the Principality of Wales / English control.
