Kingdom of Navarre

824 – 1620
KingdomEurope

A Pyrenean kingdom that straddled both slopes of the western Pyrenees, a crossroads of Iberian and French politics, absorbed by Castile in 1515 (southern Navarre) while French Navarre persisted until 1620.

The southern (Iberian) portion was conquered by Ferdinand II of Aragon in 1512 and formally annexed to Castile by 1515; the northern portion continued as a separate Kingdom of Navarre until 1620, when Louis XIII of France issued an edict incorporating it into the French crown.
