The Angevin successor state to the unified Norman–Hohenstaufen Kingdom of Sicily south of the Straits of Messina, dominating southern Italy for over five centuries.

Merged with the Kingdom of Sicily (island) in 1816 to form the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies under King Ferdinand I, following the Congress of Vienna's confirmation of Bourbon rule over both kingdoms.
