Independent Buddhist kingdom on Burma's western Arakan coast, a major Bay of Bengal power that briefly controlled the coastline from the Sundarbans to Martaban.
Conquered by the Konbaung dynasty of Burma under King Bodawpaya in January 1785; Crown Prince Thado Minsaw led the invasion beginning December 1784, captured the capital Mrauk U, and deported the Arakanese royal court and population to central Burma.
