Kingdom of Majorca

1276 – 1344
KingdomEurope

An insular Mediterranean kingdom comprising Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera plus mainland Roussillon and Montpellier, split off from the Crown of Aragon in 1276 when James I divided his realm among his sons; under James II and Sancho I it became a prosperous trading hub between Catalonia, Provence, and North Africa.

Invaded and annexed by King Peter IV of Aragon in 1343-1344 after decades of vassalage disputes, ending its de facto independent rule; the royal title was retained nominally by the Crown of Aragon until formally abolished in 1715 by the Nueva Planta decrees.
