The northern Greek kingdom that under Philip II and Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire and spread Greek culture from Egypt to Central Asia.

The original Argead dynasty Kingdom of Macedon ended in 309 BCE when Cassander had the last Argead heir, the young Alexander IV, and his mother Roxana secretly poisoned; the kingdom itself continued under competing successors and eventually under the Antigonid dynasty from 276 BCE.
