Northern Lao successor state of Lan Xang that became a French protectorate (1889) and royal seat until merged into the Kingdom of Laos in 1947.
Merged into the unified Kingdom of Laos on 11 May 1947, when the kingdoms of Luang Prabang, Vientiane, and Champasak were reorganized by the 27 August 1946 Franco-Lao agreement; King Sisavang Vong of Luang Prabang became the first King of Laos.
