Kingdom of Lo (Mustang)

Tibetan Buddhist Himalayan kingdom founded by the warrior-chief Ame Pal in 1380 in the upper Kali Gandaki, ruled from the walled city of Lo Manthang; independent, then a semi-autonomous dependency of Gorkha/Nepal from the 1790s, its rajas keeping their title until Nepal abolished the monarchy in 2008.

Transferred allegiance to the Gorkha kingdom of Nepal c. 1795 after Gorkha subdued neighboring Jumla; kept its raja and local autonomy as a Nepalese principality until becoming an ordinary district in 1951, the royal title finally abolished in 2008.
