Kingdom of Kaffa

Omotic-speaking kingdom of the southern Ethiopian highlands between the Gojeb and Omo rivers, with its own monarchy, distinct Kaffa (Kefficho) language, and stratified social groups (manjo hunters, manne leatherworkers, qemmo blacksmiths).

Overrun and conquered in 1897 by forces of Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia and subsequently annexed into the expanding Ethiopian Empire, ending Kaffa's independence.
