Kingdom of Greece

1832 – 1973
KingdomEurope

Constitutional monarchy established in 1832 under Otto of Bavaria then the Danish-descended House of Glücksburg; overthrown as a monarchy in 1924, restored in 1935, survived WWII occupation and civil war, absorbed the 1967-1973 military junta (the 'Regime of the Colonels') as a constitutional crisis rather than a change of state, and was formally abolished by the junta itself in June 1973.

The junta abolished the monarchy on 1 June 1973, declaring a republic; the modern Third Hellenic Republic (Q41 in this atlas) begins with democratic restoration in 1974.
