Kingdom of England

927 – 1707
KingdomEurope

The unified English monarchy established by Æthelstan in 927, later transformed by the Norman Conquest and the Plantagenet dynasty, until its union with Scotland created Great Britain in 1707. During the Civil Wars of 1642-1651 the realm split between Royalists loyal to Charles I — shown here as the continuing Kingdom of England — and the forces of Parliament, drawn as a separate faction; Parliament’s victory brought the execution of the king in 1649 and the republican Commonwealth of England (1649-1660), until the Restoration of 1660.

Merged with the Kingdom of Scotland under the Acts of Union in 1707 to form the Kingdom of Great Britain.
